Question: What is the difference between E78.5 (Hyperlipidemia, unspecified) and E78.49 (Other hyperlipidemia)? Oregon Subscriber Answer: Code families that use “unspecified” and “other” can be confusing when you’re trying to pick the most accurate code. For hyperlipidemia when the type isn’t specified by the physician, use E78.5. You’ll use E78.49 when the specific type of hyperlipidemia is identified but no other code for it exists.
