Think you can split urine collection code 51701 into professional and technical components? Code 51701 does not have a technical and professional component. Regardless of the place of service, one would not append modifier 26 to 51701. Internal Medicine Coding Alert, Vol 12, No. 2, page 15, incorrectly states to bill 51701 (Insertion of nonindwelling bladder catheter [e.g., straight catheterization for residual urine]) with modifier 26.
