Use 780.5x for Bad Nighttime Habits

In the December 2003 Internal Medicine Coding Alert, the reader question "Use 780.5x for Bad Nighttime Habits" on page 94 stated, "If this was the patient's yearly physical as well as a problem-focused exam (and you can provide documentation of both the preventive medicine visit and the work done beyond the preventive visit for the sleep disorder), bill V20.2 (Routine infant or child health check) for the preventive visit, and bill an E/M office visit with modifier -25 (Significant, separately identifiable evaluation and management service by the same physician on the same day of the procedure or other service) appended."
The sentence should state, "If this was the patient's yearly physical as well as a problem-focused exam (and you can provide documentation of both the preventive medicine visit and the work done beyond the preventive visit for the sleep disorder), bill V70.0 (Routine general medical examination at a health care facility) for the preventive visit, and bill an E/M office visit with modifier -25 (Significant, separately identifiable evaluation and management service by the same physician on the same day of the procedure or other service) appended."
