Give the physician a heads up about these meds.

A patient taking methadone and any one of the following drugs could be at risk for a drug-drug interaction, according to Jeffrey Behrens, MD, who presented on pain management at the March 2006 American Medical Directors Association meeting in Dallas.

Antifungals                       Doxycycline                          Paroxetine (Paxil)                       Rifampin

Ciprofloxacin (Cipro)          Erythromycin                         Phenobarbital                             Sertraline (Zoloft) 

Clarithromycin (Biaxin)      Fluoxetine (Prozac)                Propofol                                     St. John's wort (OTC herbal remedy) 

Desipramine (Norpramin)   Isoniazid                                Protease inhibitors                      Verapamil

Diclofenac (Voltaren)        Nafcillin  Quinidine
