Before You Code At P3: Does Your Restorative Program Meet These Key Criteria?

If not, you may be in for payment recoupments.

Providing restorative nursing is one thing, but being able to legitimately code it at P3 requires you to meet these criteria:

--Measurable objectives and interventions are documented in the care plan and clinical record.

--Evidence of periodic evaluation by licensed nurse is in the clinical record.

--Nurse assistants/aides must be trained in the techniques that promote resident involvement in the activity.

--The restorative activities are carried out or supervised by members of the nursing staff. Sometimes, under licensed nurse supervision, other staff and volunteers will be assigned to work with specific residents.

--Do not include groups with more than four residents per supervising helper or caregiver.
