Remember: Updated ICD-10 codes go into effect annually Oct. 1.

The World Health Organization (WHO) released its list of ICD-10 additions, deletions, and revisions for 2023, and there are a lot of updates that may affect how you code resident diagnoses.

• The update: ICD-10 2023 will feature:
• 1,468 new codes,
• 251 deleted codes,
• 35 revised codes, and
• 36 codes converted to parent.

Check out these code updates that are central to coding head injuries after falls, and make sure you update the codes you’re referencing by Oct. 1, 2023, when these changes go into effect.

Use This ‘Key’ to Map These New Codes

Since there are so many ICD-10 codes to address, we’re going to focus on concussion and other traumatic brain injury (TBI) code sets that are adding codes next year. Here’s how we’ll address the code changes in this article:
