Wondering How To Code Multivitamins, TPN, Herbal Remedies, Skin Rx?

To code Section O, you have to know not only what to count but how to count it, as follows:

  • A multivitamin counts as one medication.

  •  Liquid dietary supplements that contain vitamins and minerals (e.g., Ensure) are NOT counted.

  •  Basic TPN solutions are NOT counted in Section O (record these in Section K). But vitamins, electrolytes, or other medications (e.g., insulin) added to the TPN are counted.

  •  Herbal and alternative medicine products are NOT counted.

  •   Include topical preparations, ointments, creams used in wound care (e.g., Elase) but not topical preparations used for preventive skin care (i.e., moisturizers and moisture barriers).
