Medicare:

Wondering What Your RUG Revenues Will Be?

Follow these steps to find out.

To project your revenues for FY 2012, "obtain a report listing all billed RUG categories and the number of days at each level," advises Betsy Anderson, VP with FR&R Healthcare Consulting in Deerfield, Ill.

Next: "Apply the 2012 rates to the facility's historical case mix to calculate projected revenue," assuming you have no changes in volume, adds Anderson. Also "apply any projected changes in volume to the appropriate RUG levels."

Also take into account the impact of the End of Therapy OMRA days, which will be billed at a clinical RUG level, says Anderson (for more information on the EOT OMRA, see the CMS memo on page 87 of this issue. For coverage on the EOT OMRA and Change of Therapy OMRA, see the next MDS Alert).

Editor's note: Review the federal urban and rural unadjusted RUG rates in the SNF PPS final rule for FY 2012 at www.ofr.gov/OFRUpload/OFRData/2011-19544_PI.pdf.
