Quality Reporting:

Coding End-Stage Disease Excludes Residents From These Quality Measures

If the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services gives you a break in your quality reporting, make sure you get the benefit of it. Coding J5c (physician-certified life expectancy of six months or less) excludes a resident from these QMs:

1. Resident whose need for help with ADLs has increased

2. Resident whose ability to move in and around the room got worse

3. Short-stay residents with delirium
