Question: Did ICD-10 2020 add any new codes for atrial fibrillation? If so, what are they? Mississippi Subscriber Answer: Yes. ICD-10 2020 provided four new codes for atrial fibrillation. For longstanding persistent atrial fibrillation, you can now report I48.11 (Longstanding persistent atrial fibrillation). You also gained I48.19 (Other persistent atrial fibrillation). This code includes NOS chronic persistent atrial fibrillation and persistent atrial fibrillation. Additionally, you now have I48.21 (Permanent atrial fibrillation) for permanent atrial fibrillation and I48.20 (Chronic atrial fibrillation, unspecified) for unspecified chronic atrial fibrillation. All of these conditions fall into the cardiovascular and coagulations clinical category for the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM).
