Question: Can the MDS team can change the assessment reference date during the assessment window?

Answer: Yes. In fact, often the ARD is not chosen until the team has determined which date more accurately captures the resident's needs. (Editor's note: See page 2-40, Late or Missed Assessment Criteria, of the Resident Assessment Instrument user's manual, for information on setting the ARD within the allowable window as long as the window (including grace days) hasn't passed.
