Question:When do surveyors start using the updated Appendix PP of the State Operations Manual? Delaware Subscriber Answer: On June 29, David R. Wright, director of the Quality, Safety & Oversight Group at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), released a memorandum announcing updates to the State Operations Manual (SOM) Appendix PP, which would go into effect Oct. 24, 2022. Surveyors are now using these updates when surveying facilities. (The changes are now in effect.) In the memorandum, Wright announced that the updates would include revised surveyor guidance, training resources, adjustments for oversight of complaints and facility reported incidents (FRIs), and clarifications on the psychosocial outcome severity guide.
