Medicare Compliance & Reimbursement

Program Memo Roundup

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is restoring a pair of common working file edits that will make sure coverage limits on therapeutic shoe inserts get applied. In a Jan. 23 one-time notification (change request 3029), CMS adds HCPCS codes K0628 and K0629 - which replace the A codes that previously applied to inserts - to existing diabetic shoe edits.

In other recent program transmittals, CMS:
  unveils plans to collect occupational mix data for short-term acute care hospitals (CR 3043);
  corrects the effective date for nine cardiology code pairs in Correct Coding Initiative Version 2.3 (CR 3008); and
  adds a number of diagnosis codes to the list of covered codes for serum iron studies (CR 3072).
