Neurology & Pain Management Coding Alert

Correction:

RVU Increase for 95903

The June 2002 Neurology Coding Alert ("CMS Raises RVUs for NCS," page 46) incorrectly stated that CMS program memorandum AB-02-018 "raises the physician work value for 95903 (Nerve conduction, amplitude and latency/velocity study, each nerve; motor, with F-wave study) by 0.3 RVUs (to 0.81 RVUs), raising the total RVUs for the procedure to 1.45 ..." Rather, the statement should have read that CMS increased the value of the technical portion of the procedure by 0.3 relative value units (RVUs) from the previous 0.51 RVUs, for a new value of 0.81 RVUs. The professional component of the procedure remains 0.27 RVUs, as listed in the 2002 Physician Fee Schedule. The total value of the procedure, as stated in the original news brief, is 1.45 RVUs. The editors of Neurology Coding Alert apologize for the error and extend a special thanks to those readers who pointed it out.
