Question: What is the correct code to report minimal EEG for a comatose patient? Neurology Discussion Group Participant Answer: The appropriate code is 95822 (Electroencephalogram [EEG]; sleep only). The procedure must be performed under the general supervision of a physician. In addition, if only interpretation is provided or if the procedure is conducted in the hospital, modifier -26 (Professional component) must be appended. It is not appropriate to append modifier -52 (Reduced services) to 95822 to designate the EEG as "minimal."
