Preconfigured Array Test

Question: My neurologist performed a neurodiagnostic test with a preconfigured electrode array (without F-wave) on an established patient with diabetic sensorimotor polyneuropathy. What is the correct code for this test? Michigan Subscriber Answer: Currently, there's no specific CPT code describing preconfigured electrode array nerve testing. CPT Assistant December 2008 indicates you should report 95999 (Unlisted neurological or neuromuscular diagnostic procedure). This code may not be reimbursed by some payers, but a new Category I CPT code may be forthcoming in 2010. Your practice can realize some reimbursement, however, when you are able to report a consultation (99241-99245, Office consultation for a new or established patient ...), if appropriate. You might instead report an office visit code (99201-99215).
