2005 ICD-9 Codes Offer Nothing New for Neurosurgeons

Changes to ICD-9 for 2005 will have little effect on neurosurgery practices, and offer no new diagnosis codes specifically of interest for neurosurgeons. For facilities interested in inpatient billing (ICD-9 Volumn III codes), the revisions do include a number of noteworthy procedural additions, such as codes for vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty and insertion of spinal disc prosthesis, among others. All new ICD-9 codes for 2005 become effective Oct. 1, 2004. You can view the list of additions and revisions at: www.cms.hhs.gov/medlearn/icd9code.asp#coding.
