Reader Question:

Count Units of Service For 95938

Question: Can we bill two units of CPT® code 95938 (Short-latency somatosensory evoked potential study, stimulation of any/all peripheral nerves or skin sites, recording from the central nervous system; in upper and lower limbs), one unit for the baseline/set-up reading and another for the actual procedure. Please advice. Ohio SubscriberAnswer: MUE is the maximum units of service that a provider would report under most circumstances for a single beneficiary on a single date of service. CPT® 95938 can be billed only once as per MUE table 2012 assigned by Medicare. Medicare has assigned only one unit for CPT® code 95938.
