Reader Questions:

Fiducial markers and return scan

Question: My neurosurgeon placed fiducial markers for a deep brain stimulator for four days. He placed the markers in five places, placed covering, and the patient returned for a CT scan with fiducials. How should I code this procedure? Wisconsin Subscriber Answer: As specific as the work your physician completed might be, your only coding choice is 64999 (Unlisted procedure, nervous system). Report it along with documentation explaining medical necessity, why your neurosurgeon chose to perform the procedure, and scan results.
