ICD-10 Will Also Feature These New Codes

Answer: Yes, there are. We covered most of the neurosurgery-specific diagnosis codes coming in 2024 in the article “ICD-10 2024: Update Includes New Dx Codes for Parkinson’s, Epilepsy” in Neurosurgery Coding Alert volume 24, number 8.

There are, however, several other new codes that weren’t addressed in that article. Check out the other new codes you might want to familiarize yourself with before ICD-10 2024 takes effect on October 1, 2023:

  • G11.5 (Hypomyelination - hypogonadotropic hypogonadism - hypodontia)
  • G11.6 (Leukodystrophy with vanishing white matter disease)
  • G23.3 (Hypomyelination with atrophy of the basal ganglia and cerebellum)
  • G31.80 (Leukodystrophy, unspecified)
  • G31.86 (Alexander disease)
  • G90.B (LMNB1-related autosomal dominant leukodystrophy)
  • G93.42 (Megaloencephalic leukoencephalopathy with subcortical cysts)
  • G93.43 (Leukoencephalopathy with calcifications and cysts)
  • G93.44 (Adult-onset leukodystrophy with axonal spheroids)

Note: Look for more information on these new codes in future issues of Neurosurgery Coding Alert.
