FEDS SHED NEW LIGHT ON M0250

Question: The patient has an in-dwelling infusion device, in which medication is added during visits to the doctor's office and is administered automatically between doctor visits. Home care staff do not access or care for the device in any way. On the OASIS assessment for question M0250, you answer "1." True or False?

Answer: True. Select response "1" as long as the device is being used to deliver the medication "at home," says the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' official Mary Weakland. An indwelling infusion device is analogous to the kinds of devices - central line, subcutaneous infusion, epidural infusion, intrathecal catheter or insulin pump - CMS lists in the M0 item frequently asked questions (Category 4, Question 41), Weakland explains.
