READER QUESTION ~ Can Multiple Biopsies Change A Stasis Ulcer?

Question: When answering OASIS item M0468 (Does this patient have a stasis ulcer) and other stasis ulcer questions, if a stasis ulcer has had multiple biopsies, is it now a surgical wound?

Answer: No. If the wound started as a stasis ulcer, it remains a stasis ulcer, says senior clinical consultant Judy Adams with Charlotte, NC-based LarsonAllen. A biopsy can be a surgical procedure, but that doesn't make this a surgical wound, she adds.
