Block Pain in Peripheral Nerve Neuroma

Question: How can we report for scar neuroma Injection of the infrapatellar branch of the saphenous nerve on the left knee? Can we code this with 64450 or with 64999?

Answer: A “neuroma” is a thickening of scar tissue on the nerve and/or lining of the nerve containing nerve fibers. Therefore, the appropriate nerve injection code should be reported based on the nerve injected. You can report 64450 (Injection, anesthetic agent; other peripheral nerve or branch) for injection into the saphenous nerve.
