Reader Questions:

77295 Includes 77014's CT Guidance

Question: Can you explain why CPT 77014 is bundled with 77295? I-ve looked on the Medicare Web site but can't find an explanation. South Carolina Subscriber Answer: CCI states that 77014 (Computed tomography guidance for placement of radiation therapy fields) is not mutually exclusive to any codes, but CCI does consider 77014 to be a component of several procedures. One of these procedures, as you've seen, is 77295 (Therapeutic radiology simulations-aided field setting; 3-dimensional). According to CPT explanatory notes, "3-dimensional" in this case means "computer-generated 3-D reconstruction of tumor volume and surrounding critical normal tissue structures from direct CT scans and/or MRI data in preparation for non-coplanar or coplanar therapy -" Therefore, 77014's CT guidance is part of 77295 when performed on the same date of service.
