Bundle Keratoplasty and Iris Repair

Question: One of our physicians performed a keratoplasty (65755) and an iris repair (66680). Are these two codes bundled?

Answer: The answer to your question can be found in the latest National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits. As of April 1, 66680 (Repair of iris, ciliary body [as for iridodialysis]) is bundled into 65755 (Keratoplasty; penetrating [in pseudophakia]).
 
Numerous other codes are now bundled into 65755, including 62318, 62319, 64415, 64416, 64417, 64450, 64470, 64475, 65930, 66030, 67005, 67010, 67250, 67500, 67515, 67875 and 69990. Note, however, that all these component codes have modifier "1" attached, which means that you can still code them, including 66680, as a distinct procedural service by appending modifier -59 (Distinct procedural service) under the appropriate circumstances.
