Reader Question:

Correction of Trichiasis

Question: What is the coding information for 67820* (correction of trichiasis; epilation, by forceps only)? Can we bill for each lash taken out, and if so what modifiers do we use? Are the E1-E4 modifiers necessary?

Florida Subscriber

Answer: CPT code 67820 is in the eyelid section of CPT. When billing the procedures in this section, you are allowed to bill by lid, not by eyelash. As an example, if you removed three lashes from the lower left lid, and two lashes from the lower right lid, you would bill the services as: 67820-E2 (lower left eyelid) and 67820-50-E4 (bilateral, lower right eyelid).
