Ganciclovir Implant

Question: What is the code for a ganciclovir implant?

Anonymous IL Subscriber

Answer: Ganciclovir implants are for the treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis. The code is 67027 (implantation of intravitreal drug delivery system [e.g. ganciclovir implant], includes concomitant removal of vitreous). Some of the vitreous must be removed at the same time; that removal is included in 67027. The code for the supply is J7310 (4.5 milligrams, long-acting implant). To remove the implant without replacing it, use 67121 (removal of implanted material, posterior segment; intraocular).
