Specialty Contact Lens Fit

Question: Is there a code for a non-medical specialty contact lens fit (i.e., bifocals)?

Answer: There are two codes, 92310 (prescription of optical and physical characteristics of and fitting of contact lens, with medical supervision of adaptation; corneal lens, both eyes, except for aphakia) and 92313 (prescription of optical and physical characteristics of and fitting of contact lens, with medical supervision of adaptation; corneoscleral lens) to report contact lens fitting for a phakic patient.

Phakic refers to a patient who has either their own natural lens or an intraocular lens (IOL) that was placed as part of cataract surgery. The aphakic patient does not have a natural lens or IOL. Code 92310 refers to a corneal lens, and 92313 refers to a corneoscleral lens. To report only the supply of the contact lens, use 92391 (supply of contact lenses, except prosthesis for aphakia).
