Ophthalmology and Optometry Coding Alert

Reader Questions:

Check CCI Bundles With A-Scans

Question: Can I code both the A-scan (76519) and corneal topography (92025) together if we have qualifying diagnoses for both conditions?Kansas SubscriberAnswer: Yes. You can separately report an A-scan and corneal topography your ophthalmologist performs during the same session when the documented diagnoses support medical necessity for both services. You should use 76519 (Ophthalmic biometry by ultrasound echography, A-scan; with intraocular lens power calculation) for the A-scan and 92025 (Computerized corneal topography, unilateral or bilateral, with interpretation and report) for the corneal topography as you suggest.Bottom line: There are no Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) bundling issues associated with these two codes, so you should report both. And you shouldn't have to use modifiers to get both codes paid.
