Question: Our practice is trying to prepare now for all the upcoming coding changes. Are there any new or modified CPT^® codes for ophthalmic procedures that we should be aware of?

Answer: CPT^® 2023 only includes one minor revision to the 65091-68899 code set. Codes 66174 and 66175 will soon include an example — canaloplasty — as part of their descriptors. Starting Jan. 1, 2023, these codes will read as follows:

• 66174 (Transluminal dilation of aqueous outflow canal (eg, canaloplasty); without retention of device or stent)
• 66175 (Transluminal dilation of aqueous outflow canal (eg, canaloplasty); with retention of device or stent)
