Optometry Coding & Billing Alert

Correction

An article in the March 2006 Optometry Coding & Billing Alert, -Dodge DMERC Denials With Crystal-Clear Refractive Lens Coding,- recommended coding for trifocal lenses with anti-reflective coating as follows:

- Line 1: V2300-RT-LT (Sphere, trifocal, plano to plus or minus 4.00d, per lens; right side; left side) with two units of service

- Line 2: V2750-RT-LT-EY-GA (Antireflective coating, per lens; no physician or other licensed healthcare provider order for this item or service; waiver of liability statement on file) with two units of service.

However, the order of the modifiers appended to V2750 in line 2 is wrong. Modifiers that affect payment should appear before informational modifiers like LT and RT. Line 2 should be coded V2750-EY-GA-RT-LT.

We apologize for the error.
