A Reader Question in Optometry Coding & Billing Alert Vol. 12, No. 2 (Weigh Eye Exam vs. Consultation Coding) incorrectly stated, There is no specific ICD-9 code for diabetic macular edema. In fact, there is one: 362.07 (Diabetic macular edema). ICD-9 notes that this code must be used with a code for diabetic retinopathy (362.01-362.06).
