New diagnoses expand several sets of ICD-10 codes.

When ICD-10 2020 goes into effect, there will be several codes that you’ll want to take note of—especially if your orthopedic practice treats congenital foot anomalies.

The October 1, 2019 implementation date will bring a slew of codes that will bolster your congenital foot anomaly arsenal. “The codes for congenital anomalies of the feet have been expanded for reporting of laterality,” explains Heidi Stout, BA, CPC, COSC, PCS, CCS-P, with Coder on Call, Inc., in Milltown, New Jersey.

While Stout says there’s “nothing earth-shattering” about these new codes, you still need to be aware of them or run the risk of choosing less specific diagnosis codes for your patient’s condition. Here’s a list of the new congenital anomaly ICD-10 codes:

• Q66.00 — Congenital talipes equinovarus, unspecified foot
• Q66.01 — Congenital talipes equinovarus, right foot
• Q66.02 — Congenital talipes equinovarus, left foot
• Q66.10 — Congenital talipes calcaneovarus, unspecified foot
• Q66.11 — Congenital talipes calcaneovarus, right foot
• Q66.12 — Congenital talipes calcaneovarus, left foot
• Q66.211 — Congenital metatarsus primus varus, right foot
• Q66.212 — Congenital metatarsus primus varus, left foot
• Q66.219 — Congenital metatarsus primus varus, unspecified foot
• Q66.221 — Congenital metatarsus adductus, right foot
• Q66.222 — Congenital metatarsus adductus, left foot
• Q66.229 — Congenital metatarsus adductus, unspecified foot
