Avoid Unlisted CPT® for Quad Repair Code

Question: Our orthopedic surgeon recently performed a quadriceps tendon repair but told me that no codes in CPT® match the description of the surgery he did. Therefore, he’s advising me to report an unlisted-procedure code. Is that accurate?

Answer: No. You can avoid reporting 27599 (Unlisted procedure, femur or knee) in this situation. Instead, you should submit 27385 (Suture of quadriceps or hamstring muscle rupture; primary) for this procedure.
