Reader Question:

Be Specific With 27385 for Quadriceps Reconstruction

Question: Our surgeon is going to perform a Quadriceps tendon reconstruction in the knee area for a rupture in the quadriceps tendon. How do we report this? Ohio Subscriber Answer: You report code 27385 (Suture of quadriceps or hamstring muscle rupture; primary) for the repair of the quadriceps that your surgeon is planning. This holds true if it is acute. The term reconstruction here may imply that the rupture was old or more complex. You need to confirm with your surgeon or the operative note for the same. In this case, you may report code 27386 (Suture of quadriceps or hamstring muscle rupture; secondary reconstruction, including fascial or tendon graft).
