Reader Question:

C3-4 Laminoplasty

Question: What is the best code to report a C3-4 laminoplasty?

Missouri Subscriber
Answer: This is another one of those unfortunate situations where no existing CPT code accurately describes the procedure performed. For carriers who will accept unlisted-procedure codes, report 64999 (Unlisted procedure, nervous system). For those that will not accept unlisted-procedure codes, 63045 (Laminectomy, facetectomy and foraminotomy [unilateral or bilateral with decompression of spinal cord, cauda equina and/or nerve root(s), (e.g., spinal or lateral recess stenosis)], single vertebral segment; cervical) is the best option.
