Question: What is considered limited debridement (29822) versus extensive (29823)?

Answer: According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Complete Global Service Data for Orthopaedic Surgery 2001, 29822 and 29823 both include the following components as part of their global package: diagnostic arthroscopy, limited synovectomy, complete synovectomy, labrum debridement, removal of osteophytes from humerus or glenoid and articular shaving and/or chondroplasty.

Code 29823, a more extensive procedure, includes the following additional components: removal of osteochondral and/or chondral bodies, biceps tendon and rotator cuff debridement, and abrasion arthroplasty.
