You Have Common Code for Dorsal/Volar Wrist Ganglion Excision

Question: In a patient who was diagnosed with right wrist dorsal ganglion and underlying scapholunate dissociation with Grade 4 chondromalacia, our surgeon did a ganglion excision. Can you please share the best code for this procedure?

Answer: For excision of the dorsal wrist ganglion, you report code 25111(Excision of ganglion, wrist [dorsal or volar]; primary). If it is a recurrent ganglion, you report 25112 (Excision of ganglion, wrist [dorsal or volar]; recurrent). You may also report the diagnosis codes 727.41 (Ganglion of joint) or 727.42 (Ganglion of tendon sheath) depending upon origin of ganglion.
