Look to This Dx for Ligamentous Laxity

Question: Notes indicate the provider treated a patient with “ligamentous laxity, R wrist.” I’m not seeing a diagnosis code that tracks to this term. Can you help?

Answer: The proper diagnosis code for the condition you describe is M24.231 (Disorder of ligament, right wrist). According to ICD-10, “Ligamentous laxity NOS” is another term for this condition. Complicating matters further is that the ICD-10 clarification on the term is under the heading for M24.2 (Disorder of ligament) — so it’s a little hard to find.

Also: In addition to these two terms, “instability secondary to old ligament injury” tracks to M24.2.
