READER QUESTIONS:

Number of X-Ray Views May Not Drive Units

Question: How many foot x-ray views must we take to bill 73620 and 73630? And should we use the number of views to calculate how many units of the code we can report?

Answer: Code 73620 (Radiologic examination, foot; two views) requires a minimum of two foot views, whereas 73630 (Radiologic examination, foot; complete, minimum of three views) requires at least three views.

You should not translate the number of views that your x-ray technologist takes into the number of units that you can report. You should select your x-ray code based on the number of views taken and report it as only one unit.

For example, if your practice x-rays the left foot with four views, you should report 73630-LT (Left side).
