Otolaryngology Coding Alert

Reader Question:

CCI 18.1 Edits Affect Auditory Function, Speech Testing

Question: I noticed that the Correct Coding Initiative edits version 18.1 came out and went into effect April 1, 2012. Are there any bundles my otolaryngology practice should take into account?New Jersey SubscriberAnswer: The only new CCI edits that could affect your otolaryngology practice affect auditory function and speech testing. You should not report 92620 (Evaluation of central auditory function, with report; initial 60 minutes) with 92571 (Filtered speech test), 92572 (Staggered spondaic word test), or 92576 (Synthetic sentence identification test). Similarly, you should not report 92621 (... each additional 15 minutes [List separately in addition to code for primary procedure]) with the same codes: 92571, 92572, or 92576. All of these edits have a modifier indicator of "0," meaning you cannot separate them with a modifier.
