Reader Question:

Consider 2 Options for Reporting Maneuvers

Question: How should I report an Epley maneuver and a Hall Pike test? Will insurers cover these tests, or should I have the patient sign a waiver stating that he is responsible for payment?

Florida Subscriber Answer: Medicare requires you to use 92700 (Unlisted otorhinolaryngological service or procedure) for the Epley maneuver and a Hall Pike test. Submit the unlisted-procedure code with documentation and a description of the service. For electronic submissions, list the canalith positioning maneuver in box 19. If you file a paper claim, attach a procedure's explanation. Most carriers reimburse the procedures with appropriate documentation, so you do not need a patient waiver.

Some private payers may instead require temporary national (non-Medicare) code S9092 (Canalith repositioning, per visit). Don't use this code unless a commercial payer instructs you to.
