READER QUESTION ~ Expect CPT 2007 to Revise Mohs/Consult Codes

Question: I heard that CPT 2007 is going to change the Mohs codes. How will that affect our ENT practice?

Missouri Subscriber Answer: CPT 2007 has no changes for ENTS unless your physician perform Mohs excision and surgeries.

Codes 17304-17310 will be deleted and replaced by 17311-17315. But because otolaryngologists usually close the defect and do not actually perform the Mohs surgery, you probably won't use these new codes.

Other major integumentary section changes include  new codes 15002-15005 for surgical preparation or creation of recipient site, which replace 15000-15001.

In the E/M section, you can expect some consultation code changes. But compared to last year's overhaul of these codes, the revisions are minor. To keep in line with CPT 2006's elimination of follow-up consultation codes, -initial- consultation codes (99251-99255) will become -inpatient- consultation codes.
