Find Hyoid Code in Neck Subsection

Question: How should I code for "hyoid suspension" due to obstructive sleep apnea? I was unable to locate a code for this procedure in CPT's laryngeal section. California Subscriber Answer: Look in the musculoskeletal system for the hyoid suspension code (21685, Hyoid myotomy and suspension). Because hyoid suspension advances the tongue base and epiglottis forward to open the breathing passage at this level, people often associate the operation with the palette area. But the AMA placed the code in the neck or soft tissues subsection. For the diagnosis, use obstructive sleep apnea code 327.23 (Obstructive sleep apnea [adult] [pediatric]).
