Otolaryngology Coding Alert

Reader Questions:

Office or OR, the Code Remains the Same

Question: My doctor said he performed a flexible laryngoscopy with a tracheoscopy. He wants to know what the CPT is for doing that in the office. Most of the time my doctors do this in the operating room, so we-re not sure how to code this. Nevada Subscriber Answer: If you-re using the same equipment, it doesn't matter whether you-re in an office or an OR. If your ENT performed a diagnostic scope, you-d use 31525 (Laryngoscopy, direct, with or without tracheoscopy; diagnostic, except newborn).
