First Step for Coding Sinus Hydrodebridement

Question: What is the correct code for hydrodebridement of sinuses?

Massachusetts Subscriber

Answer:  The Hydrodebrider System is a pressurized irrigation system intended to remove bacteria from the paranasal sinuses. Usually this is an endoscopic sinus irrigation process, which can be reported with 31237 (Nasal/sinus endoscopy, surgical; with biopsy, polypectomy or debridement [separate procedure]). For a non-endoscopic procedure, report 31000 (Lavage by cannulation; maxillary sinus [antrum puncture or natural ostium]) or 31002 (Lavage by cannulation; sphenoid sinus).
