What MACRA Has In Store For You

Question: There is a news that MACRA may be delayed. What are the chances that this may be true? What should the providers look forward to?

Answer: In a recent testimony to the Senate finance committee, CMS’s acting administrator did discuss at length the feedback CMS received regarding the implementation of MACRA next year. A majority of providers seem to be in favor of delay, and CMS seems to be considering this favorably. CMS may come up with an interim final rule prior to the final rule. Some of the solutions that have been suggested to soften the impact on providers are:

Postponing of the implementation date to July 2017.
Shorter reporting periods.
Procurement of data directly through an automated database so that physicians need not carry out manually the task of reporting in those categories.
