Know the Potential Hardship Exemptions

If your practice is set to face an e-prescribing penalty but fits into one of the following six categories, you should log onto the internet as soon as possible to apply for one of CMS's e-prescribing payment adjustment hardship exemptions before the Nov. 1 deadline:

1. Rural Area With Lack of Access to the Internet

2. Limited Access to Pharmacies That Accepted Electronic Prescribing

3. Registration in the Medicare or Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs With Intended Adoption of Certified EHR Technology

4. Prescribing Medications That Legally Cannot Be Electronically Transmitted

5. Limited Prescribing Activity

6. Insufficient Opportunities to Report the E-prescribing Measure Due to Limitations in the Measure's Denominator
