Sleep Medicine to Get Its Own Specialty Code in April, CMS Says

Plus: PECOS surrogate program to go live this spring. Billing Medicare for subspecialists can be problematic for many practices, since CMS doesn't recognize all of the subspecialties that exist. But the agency aims to make that process slightly easier with the introduction of a new sleep medicine subspecialty of internal medicine coming this April, CMS's Marc Hartstein said during a March 6 open door forum. CMS will be releasing more information about the impending specialty code debut as the date gets closer.
