PHYSICIAN NOTES:

CMS Scraps Timeliness Advice From Recent CMS-855 Transmittal

Plus: Medicare fraud strike force nails 53 individuals who billed more than $50 million in false Medicare claims.

When it comes to Medicare enrollment, CMS certainly likes keeping providers on their toes.

Our article, "3 Mistakes Could Derail Your Medicare Enrollment," featured in last week's edition of the Insider, offered snippets from CMS transmittal 292, dated June 12. In the transmittal, CMS listed over a dozen mistakes that providers might make that would cause their carrier to immediately return their enrollment application-- including submitting your CMS-855 enrollment form too early.

But this week, CMS changed course, re-releasing the transmittal as a blank document other than a headline indicating that the change request "is being rescinded and will be reissued at a later date."

Practices continue to keep their fingers crossed that the scheduled revision to the transmittal includes fewer impediments to Medicare enrollment and more tips on how to keep enrollment moving quickly -- but that remains to be seen.

Keep an eye on the Insider for further developments on this issue.
